class of '78 gives back

Today's Westminster High School students face tremendous challenges. The class of '78 wants to help ensure that they have the opportunity for a successful future.

In honor of our 30 Year Reunion, the WHS Class of '78 is raising funds and asking for your donations to support the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program at Westminster High School. The Reunion Committee is keeping the cost of the events low to encourage classmates to contribute to the fund.

Your donations are tax deductible through the District 50 Education Foundation.

30 Year Reunion fundraising efforts include:

  • GOLF: Friday, August 15, 2008: Fundraising Golf Tournament at Hyland Hills Golf Club. To sign-up, register from this site or call Dale Armstrong at Hiccups III 303.429.0574.
  • PARTY: Friday, August 15, 2008: Friday Night Main Reunion Event and Live Auction at Hiccups III. Please go to Classmates.com to RSVP.
    • Among a collection of great auction items, you will have the chance to bid on a signed guitar by music guest, Jimmie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame! Remember our class song, Freebird? Come to the event and hear it live!
  • DONATE: We are asking for Donations from Class of '78 and Friends of Westminster and Ranum High Schools.

about AVID

avid101

Westminster High School is proud to be an AVID National Demonstration School. AVID is a program designed to support students in reaching their college dreams. AVID targets students in the middle (B's, C's, D's) who, with additional support, can achieve eligibility for college entrance.

In 2007, 78% of WHS AVID students entered a 2 or 4 year college.

AVID has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students and in closing the achievement gap. AVID develops motivation and drive in students and encourages them to pursue 2 and 4 year post secondary degrees. While in high school, students are taught top notch study skills and encouraged to pursue rigorous classes. For one period a day, students learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and how to ask probing questions, get academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make college seem attainable. Their self-images improve, and they become academically successful leaders and role models for other students.
